Nigerian Senator advocates death penalty for corruption

Gbolahan Dada (APC-Ogun West) has advocated capital punishment for corrupt officials in the country. Mr. Dada, who made the suggestion during interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Friday, said “corruption is the bane of this country and the only way out is heavy penalty, even death sentence, for those found guilty. “The only way you can stop corruption is through death sentence”. Mr. Dada noted that there were so many laws that should be promulgated at this stage of Nigeria’s development, pointing out that England did so too at a stage in her life. He accused civil servants of being the major culprits, pointing out that they had access to public funds which made it easy for them to steal from the national treasury. “This is why some of them, after stealing so much money from government, set up personal businesses but collapse soon after because they only know how to steal, not to create wealth. “Wealth creation is a process that must be sustained but you go

ASUU strike continues as Senate meeting is deadlocked. JalaLoaded

An attempt by the Senate to bring to an end the lingering crisis between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government, failed Monday after an eight-hour meeting between both sides was deadlocked. The two sides failed to agree on lecturers’ earned allowances. The chairman, Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFund, Jibrin Barau, disclosed this Monday night in Abuja. The Senate had last Tuesday resolved to mediate between the Federal Government and ASUU. The lecturers want improved pay and work conditions. ASUU declared a warning strike shortly after the Senate’s resolution, over the failure of the government to implement terms of the 2009 and 2013 agreements. The strike ends Wednesday amid fears of a looming indefinite strike. Monday’s meeting with the union resolved all issues except earned allowances, Mr. Barau, APC Senator representing Kano South, said. “You can see that we’ve been talking for about eight hours,” said Mr. Barau. “We have delibe

Naira appreciates at interbank market

The Naira on Monday gained 50k to exchange at N305 to a dollar at the interbank market, the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, reports. The Nigerian currency had closed at N305.50 for most part of last week at the interbank market. However, naira remained stable at the parallel market, closing at N465 to a dollar, while Pound Sterling and Euro exchanged at N565 and N490, respectively. Trading at the Bureau De Change (BDC) window saw the naira closing at N390 to a dollar, CBN controlled rate, while Pound Sterling and Euro traded at N562 and N500 respectively. Currency traders said that uneasy calm had prevailed at the market due to its raid by officials of the State Security Service, SSS, in some parts of the country. In spite of the raid, the naira had remained pretty stable. Meanwhile, stakeholders expect the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting being held in Abuja to come up with policies that would lead to a greater flexibility of the exchange rate. (NAN)

How to make your own quality chicken feed at home to cut costs

The following are the DCP values for each of the common ingredients used in feed making: Whole maize — 8.23% Soya — 45% Fishmeal (omena) — 55% Maize bran — 7% Sunflower — 35% Each category of chicken has its nutritional requirement. For example, if we want to make feed for layers, the feed should have at least 18 per cent crude protein. If one was to formulate feed for layers, then they would have to calculate the percentage of DCP in each of the ingredients they want to use to ensure that the total crude protein content is at least 18 per cent. Therefore, to make a 70kg bag of feed for layers, a farmer would require the following ingredients: 34kg of whole maize 12kg of soya 8kg of omena (fishmeal) 10kg of maize bran 6kg of lime (as a calcium source) To find out if all the above ingredients meet this standard of 18% crude protein, a farmer can do a simple calculation as follows: Whole maize — 34kg x 8.23 ÷100 = 2.80 % Soya — 12kg x 45kg ÷ 100 = 5.40 %

Dalung urges Govt to stop sponsoring Super Eagles’ W/Cup Qualification

Nigerian sports minister Solomon Dalung has sparked off another controversy after he said the government should withdraw its sponsorship of the Super Eagles qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup because it is too expensive. He said money saved by government from such a withdrawal could be better invested in developing the game, while also arguing that African countries should make the AFCON top priority and not the World Cup. He says the Nations Cup and not the World Cup should be the priority of all Africa countries including Nigeria. The government had to bail out the Super Eagles with cash for them to fly out to Zambia in October. Nigeria lead their qualifying group with six points after two rounds of matches, ahead of Cameroon, Zambia and Algeria.

Mr. Buhari made the appeal at the 20th Anniversary of Nigerian Agip Oil Company’s Green River Project Farmers Day, held at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa. The president urged them to take advantage of the huge potential in agriculture and stop the destruction of oil and gas pipelines, which only served to destroy the country’s ecosystem and economy. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the president was represented at the occasion by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Heineken Lokpobiri. He commended the unrelenting efforts of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company, who he said had proved that oil production and agriculture can coexist. “They have for the past 29 years supported their host communities to focus on agriculture through the Green River Project, a cor
